2022 Farm Shares

Nourishing  Food + Community

Our family farm is now in its 12th year!  We have been providing the kind folks of Richmond as well as many local high end restaurants with our high quality nutrient dense food grown in our naturally amended soil in Hanover County.  Farming is not our job, it is our family’s way of life. We believe in family values and offering the very best to our local community.

What is a farm share?

We are now ready to offer our very limited Farm Share (CSA Membership)  to a limited number of families in the Richmond area.  A Farm Share  is Community Supported Agriculture and is a membership where by committing with us at the beginning of the growing season, you share the rewards and risks of our farm.   By doing this, you are helping us be a successful farm by allowing us to bear the up front costs of starting each spring.  Seeds, tools, and maintenance costs all add up very quickly.   Since you will be helping us early, we will do our best to give you added value each week as a reward.  As a member of our CSA you will have direct access to the very best food we grow, the same food we feed our family.  As part of your membership, we will let you know what you will be getting in your bag each week. Each week you will be receiving a bag of naturally grown produce beginning in mid-May and ending the last week of September.

What will you get in your bag?

Farmer Matt is known in the Richmond area for his wonderful field greens as well as his delicate baby arugula.  Each week you will receive either a bag of  baby arugula or fresh field greens.  Also, throughout the season, you will find an evolving harvest of items such as baby bok choi, kale, or tatsoi leafy greens.  These will be complimented with seasonal root veggies like radishes, carrots, turnips or beets.  As the weather warms, soon there will be Hanover tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and sweet small cherry tomatoes coming in along with all sorts of assorted peppers from bells to Italian frying type and even those wonderful shishitos!  Each week, you will find 7 – 10 items in your bag!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of your membership is exploring how our (and your!) produce harvests change as the seasons progress.   Some things are sometimes available all season and some items only make a brief showing.

In the spring  you will find Asian turnips, beets, radishes, romaine lettuces, leeks, spring onions, spring garlic, early squash, carrots, swiss chard, and spinach. We will rotate this produce through the season so you don’t get tired of having the same things.

Once summer begins, you will receive a variety of microgreens, cured garlic, cured onions, summer squash, cherry tomatoes, Hanover tomatoes, basil, green beans, peppers, fennel, okra, squash, zucchini, roasting peppers, shishito peppers, and bell peppers.  Don’t forget you will also be getting either a bag of arugula or field greens each week throughout the season!

The fall will continue to bring you microgreens, asian turnips, beets, radishes, romaine lettuces, leeks, carrots, broccoli, swiss chard, peppers, green beans, cured onions, leeks, garlic, egg plant, okra, and carrots.

This card is only available to our RVA Big Market shoppers.  With this card, you can decide when and what to buy each week.  The card will work similar to a debit system and you will receive a 10% discount as a bonus added to the value of your card.  Our farm share card members will also have an additional week at the end of the season to use up their remaining balance, however your card will expire at the end of the season.  The Member Card will enable you to shop when you want and will enable you to take vacations without worrying about missing out on a week of great food!

Also,  if we only have a small harvest of something (such as extra early carrots) that won’t even make it to the market table,  you will find that in your bag as well!

Both are great options!  Equal but different. The Member Card offers flexibility and the Member Bag offers stability. The Member Bag gets you 1st choice even if you like to sleep late on Saturday mornings or the Member Card lets you come and go as you please.    We strive to offer both a significant savings and benefit each week in exchange for your offered commitment to our small farm for the season.
